• 1973-1977 Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University
  Awarded the degree of Bsc in Geology and Mineralogy
• 1977-1979 Institute of Science, Kanazawa University
  Awarded the degree of Msc in Earth Science for a thesis entitled "Geology and Petrology of Funagata volcano, northeast Japan."
  Work supervised by Professor Masao Yamasaki.
• 1979-1983 Institute of Science, Hokkaido University
  1990 Awarded the degree of PhD in Geology and Mineralogy
  for a thesis entitled "Petrological study of the Akan volcanic
  field, eastern Hokkaido, with special reference to mixing and
  evolution of magmas." Work supervised by Professor Yoshio
  Katsui.
